The Approach

I document the people, atmosphere, and unscripted details that make an experience worth joining.

Retreat operators, boutique hotels, destination brands, founders, and music teams hire TaraLens when they need an embedded documentarian—not a photographer directing every moment from the sidelines.

My background in live music and concert photography built a specific skill set: reading a room fast, working confidently in difficult light, anticipating a moment before it happens, staying invisible in a crowd, and telling a complete story rather than collecting individual photographs. Those instincts translate directly to retreat coverage, brand campaigns, and any experience where the real thing is more valuable than the arranged version.

The result is a cohesive visual library built for websites, launches, press, social media, future campaigns, and the long-term history of the brand.

From the Work

Selected retreat & experience documentation.

Woman in traditional kimono feeding a deer in Nara, Japan — hosted travel retreat documentation
Hands-on mochi making during a traditional craft experience in Japan
Interior of a Japanese tea house — atmospheric venue detail from hosted travel retreat
Exploring a quiet neighborhood street in Japan during a hosted travel retreat

Hosted Travel Retreat

Japan Cultural Experience

Multi-day documentary coverage of a hosted small-group travel retreat in Japan. Coverage followed the group through neighborhood walks, a traditional mochi-making craft experience, a kimono and deer encounter at Nara, atmospheric local venues, and cultural discovery moments throughout the trip.

The goal was a cohesive visual record of the experience—the kind of images that show future participants what joining actually feels like, not just where the trip goes.

Images from the project were intended to serve as a visual record for participants and a marketing asset for future retreat editions—showing the breadth and feel of what the experience offers.

BottleRock Napa Valley — PEOPLE

Editorial photography assignment at BottleRock Napa Valley 2023. Photographs from the assignment, including images of Lizzo and White Panda, were published by PEOPLE on May 30, 2023.

Festival and live-event documentation is one of the environments where the documentary instincts developed most—reading a crowd, working fast in unpredictable light, and producing editorial-quality images under time pressure.

How It Works

Working together on a commercial project.

Step 1

Inquiry & Discovery

Tell me what you're building, where it's happening, and what you need the images to do. I respond within 48 hours. For larger projects, we schedule a discovery call to discuss scope, deliverables, and fit.

Step 2

Proposal

I put together a tailored proposal based on project duration, location, deliverables, licensing, and travel. Commercial work is always quoted per project—no preset packages.

Step 3

Agreement & Logistics

Once the proposal is approved, we sign an agreement and confirm logistics. For multi-day retreats and destination work, I coordinate any travel needs as part of the project setup.

Step 4

Coverage & Delivery

I show up, stay out of the way, and document what actually happens. Final edited images are delivered within the agreed timeline as a licensed library ready for your intended use.

Deliverables & Usage

Images built for the long life of what you're creating.

Typical Deliverables

  • Edited image library scoped to project
  • High-resolution files for print and web
  • Web-optimized versions for digital use
  • Daily edits (multi-day retreats, on request)
  • Delivery within agreed timeline

Common Uses

  • Website and landing pages
  • Social media (organic and paid)
  • Press, editorial, and media pitches
  • Future retreat and campaign marketing
  • Brand history and archive

Licensing is scoped per project based on intended channels, duration, and use. All terms are confirmed in the project agreement.
