A documentary eye, earned in low light
I'm Tara — a Denver-based documentary photographer working across elopements and intimate ceremonies, music and touring, retreats and hosted travel, and brand and destination campaigns. What holds all of it together is one approach: capture what actually happened, beautifully and honestly.
Shooting live music in unpredictable rooms built a particular set of muscles — reading a space fast, working in difficult light, staying calm when a moment can't be repeated. Those are the exact skills an elopement or a campaign day quietly demands. That background led to editorial work, including photographs published by PEOPLE at BottleRock Napa Valley 2023, photography featured on multiple covers of RedRover's Companion magazine, and five photographs selected for exhibition during the 2024 Trieste Photo Days Fringe festival in Trieste, Italy.
What that means for you
- Very little posing. Mostly, I document.
- Confident in low light, motion and chaos.
- Planning help — locations, timing, permits, vendors — is part of the experience for eligible elopement services.
- Inquiries typically receive a response within 48 hours.
My work is for people, not categories — couples, musicians, adventurers, brands. LGBTQ+ affirming, always.
I also founded Girls in the Pit — a podcast and platform for the women, artists, photographers, and overlooked voices shaping live music. Building that community from the inside taught me something that informs every commercial project: the difference between photographing a community from the outside and actually understanding how it forms, sustains itself, and wants to be represented.
Experience brands, retreat operators, artists, hospitality properties, founders, and couples work with TaraLens when they want an embedded documentarian—not a photographer directing every moment from the sidelines.

The environment where my documentary instincts were built.
One approach, every kind of story
Documentary photography for intimate people, live experiences, and destination stories.
Whether it's a courthouse elopement at 10 a.m., a full tour run through three cities, a hosted retreat in Japan, or a campaign shoot — the instinct is the same: get in the room, read what's real, and don't miss it.
